How long does it take to get an MSIC through OneStop?
The processing time for an MSIC card is approximately 12 weeks from the time you lodge your form with Australia Post. Processing time for background checks, card printing and deliver is not within OneStop’s control and cannot be fast-tracked.
What’s involved in a MSIC background check?
AusCheck coordinates the MSIC background checks which comprise of:
- a security assessment by the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO).
- a criminal history check by Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission.
- an immigration check by the Department of Home Affairs
Once the background check is complete, Auscheck decides if you are eligible to be granted an MSIC. AusCheck will communicate directly with the applicant, as needed, during this phase of the application process.
Can OneStop arrange temporary access to the terminals for me until I receive my MSIC?
OneStop does not have authority to request temporary access to any facility on behalf of an applicant. If you require access before your MSIC or Access Card is issued, you should contact the Security Superintendent at the relevant facility directly. It is entirely at the discretion of the terminal to decide whether access will be granted or not.
How is the MSIC application process different if I am not an Australian Citizen?
You can apply for an MSIC by using your foreign Passport of Immigrant card as one of your proof of identify documents. You must have valid working rights in Australia to apply for an MSIC.
What happens if my application for an MSIC is rejected?
If your application for an MSIC is unsuccessful due to an adverse criminal record, you have the option of applying to the Secretary of the Department of Home Affairs for a discretionary review.

Can I use an expired passport as a proof of identity document?
An expired passport is not a valid form of identification for an MSIC application. Refer to the list of acceptable proof of identify documents.
What should I bring to Lodge my application form at Australia Post?
To lodge your application at Australia Post, bring:
- Your printed application form – do not alter or write on any part of it. If changes are required, update your details online and reprint the form.
- Your original proof of identity documents – photocopies will not be accepted
- Payment (if required)
- Your change of name documents (if required) – if your name on your application doesn’t match your proof of identity documents, bring your change of name certificate or marriage certificate.
How long do I have to lodge my form at Australia Post?
You have 2 weeks from the time you print your application form to lodge your application at Australia Post. After printing, ensure you wait at least 1 hour (for the application data to be sent to the Australia Post system) before you present your application at Australia Post.
My card hasn't arrived at Australia Post, can it be traced?
You will receive the notification, once the card as been dispatched from the manufacturer to the nominated post office. OneStop cannot trace the card, but if it has not arrived within 10 business days from when it was posted by the manufacturer, we can investigate and order a reprint if the card is deemed lost by Australia Post.
What do I do if I can’t I collect my card from Australia Post?
Australia Post will hold your card for 30 days, and if you do not collect it within this period, they will send the card back to OneStop. If you know you will not be able to collect your card within the 30 days, you can contact the OneStop Helpdesk to arrange for the card to be redirected to another post office or for the collection period to extended.
What do I need to bring to collect my card at Australia Post?
If you are collecting a new card, bring your collection letter and photo ID. If you are collecting a renewal or replacement card bring your collection letter, photo ID and your previous card OR a Statutory Declaration stating why you cannot present it
I'm not using my MSIC, do I need to send it back?
To hold an MSIC, you must be able to demonstrate that you have an operational need to have unmonitored access to a maritime security zone at least once a year. If you will not need the card in the next 12 months, you are required to post your MSIC to OneStop no more than 30 days from when you become aware of this.
My MSIC is expired / almost expired and I don't need to renew it, what do I do?
Return your MSIC to OneStop no more than 30 days after the card expires. If your card hasn't expired yet, but you don't need it, attach a note/letter advising that you no longer require the card so when we can process it appropriately when we receive it.
My MSIC has been cancelled, what do I do?
If you receive notice that your MSIC has been cancelled, you are required to return your MSIC to OneStop no more than 30 days from the date of the notice.

Do I need to do anything extra for a 4 Year MSIC?
As a condition of holding a 4 year MSIC, you will need to undergo a second background check two years after the date the MSIC was approved. This background check is conducted automatically by Auscheck and if the result is positive, the MSIC holder can continue to use their MSIC. If the result is negative, the holder will be notified and the MISC may be cancelled.
MSIC & Access card holders will also need re-do their online inductions after 2 years as part of the facilities OH&S requirements.
Can I get a refund if my application taking too long?
Refunds only apply for applications which have NOT been lodged at Australia Post OR are in PAU status (DVS Error). An admin fee (10% if not lodged at Australia Post and 20% if in PAU status) is charged and will be deducted from your refund amount.
